Levites - An Israelite Tribe (3 of 12), Line of Priests

From Levi of Jacob (Israel), the Tribe of Levi is best noted as Israel's Tribe of Priests as ordained by God. 

The Levites did not receive lands for themselves for they were dispersed into to numerous cities within the lands of the other tribes.

Over 200 Levites are mentioned by name throughout Scripture, but the most notable of Levi's descendants are Moses and Aaron.

The immediate sub-tribes include the Gershonites, the Kohathites and the Merarites.
