Potshards (pieces of pottery) can be interesting, but finding an entire piece of pottery is even better! This bowl features a swirl pattern that is very common to Philistine settlements from 1200 BC to about 850 BC (the time of Judges and Kingdoms of Israel). Swirls, birds and fish drawn onto bottery with red and black ink/paint (modernly referred to as Philistine Bichrome ware) is found often and would have been a familiar sight to many of the people found in the Old Testament.

This bowl was found in the ancient city of Gath (hometown of Goliath).
