Jeroboam's Bulla

8th Century BC Bulla Names Jeroboam

Dani Machlis
"Belonging to Shema the servant/minister of Jeroboam" Dani Machlis

Likely the oldest seal with writing from Israel, this 2,700-year-old seal reads "I'shema eved Yerov'am" (Belonging to Shema the servant of Jeroboam). After 5 years of testing to prove its authenticity, this bulla confirms the existence of King Jeroboam II, the wicked king who ruled the northern tribes of Israel from 788-748 BC.
